Pitch Fibre Repairs
Pitch fibre is a notoriously unreliable drainage material which was in use between the 50s and 70s. Research suggests that such pipes only have an average lifespan of 40 years. Extensive problems can occur with pitch fibre drains including:
Internal blistering, caused by deterioration can cause blockages and eventually close up the entire pipeline.
Pitch fibre is prone to deterioration caused by age, chemical erosion, weight stress and poorly installation.
Over time, pitch fibre can become porous, washing away subsoil and causing subsidence. This also attracts shrub and tree roots, causing further damage.
The delicate nature of pitch fibre means that the usual methods of drain clearance, e.g. high pressure jetting, can cause further structural damage.
Pitch fibre re-rounding
We have been carrying out repairs to damaged pitch fibre for a number of years and have perfected our 'no dig' repair solution, which involves reshaping the deformed pipe with our winch system: UKdl deal with the problem by winching a 're-rounding cone' through the damaged area. This restores the drain to its optimal shape, which is then fixed in place by installing an epoxy resin impregnated liner, preventing any further deterioration. All of this can be done quickly and efficiently without the need for a disruptive excavation. After the procedure has been carried out the pipe is cleaned and checked with our CCTV camera and once we are happy with the re-profiling a CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) structural liner is installed to hold the pipe's shape stopping any future deformation of the pipe.
